Blender bikes for all

The CCCT have been successful with a funding application from Award for All (Big Lottery Fund). This has enabled us to purchase 3 blender bikes and trailer. The blender bikes are exercise bikes with a blender attached, so as you pedal, you blend what ever ingredients to consume via a smoothie.
These are to be taken around Calderdale to introduce and educate the local community about healthy lifestyle.
The bikes will be available to schools, community groups and businesses to hire.
The CCCT will also be showcasing the bikes at various galas and events in and around Calderdale through 2015.

Successful grants and Donations

The CCCT are a small charity who depend on sales, grants and donations to continue our good work. Thanks to some recent donations, we are able to plan for the new year with great optimism for our current projects.

The first of these was from the Rank Foundation who are kindly giving us money towards a new trailer.  This has been added to the grant we received earlier this year from Community Foundation for Calderdale for the same resource. We are planning on expanding our wheelchair sessions across Calderdale and this trailer is essential.

The Halifax RLFC Independent Supporters Trust (HIST) have kindly donated money to the CCCT, as a thank you for Big Frank attending their October meeting.  We are hoping to do more work together in the community where and when it is possible.

Finally, CCCT Chairman and Halifax RLFC Director Michael Steele and his wife Glenda recently celebrated their wedding anniversary.  As a kind gesture, they had guests donate money to the CCCT to go towards projects for local children.

All the work we do must either pay for itself or have a funding plan put in place for it to continue.  We are always grateful to individuals for personal donations so If you would like to get involved with the CCCT as either a participant or you would like to make a donation, please contact us on This email address is being protected from spambots. Winter Touch Competition

The CCCT are starting our first indoor Play Touch RL competition this Friday 10th of October.  It will be held at the 3 Ways centre in Ovenden which is the old Ridings School site.  We have the large sports hall booked from 7pm to 8pm and plan to have 2 games of 25mins each per night.  Places will be limited so it will be on a first come first served basis.

As this is our first look at a winter competition the price will be reduced to £2 per night.  We hope this can become an annual event and if possible we will run another 10 week session in the new year.

Young at Heart over 50s project

At this weeks meeting we were delighted to receive news that we had been awarded £9000 in the Big Lottery, Awards for All. We qualified for this award for tackling isolation & loneliness in the community. To further this we would like to hear from people who would benefit from joining our club and if they have doubts of managing to get to the club we are looking into methods of transport.

Feel free to leave your telephone number on our e mail This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or phone 07547914423 and we will get back to you.

We are planning to have an open day on October 30th from 1pm until 4pm so that you can see the extent of our facilities? Along with our usual activities we are planning a short Zumba class & a horse race game. Light refreshments will be provided.

Dragons training starts again

Our Wheelchair dance group has starting training every Monday evening at Calderdale College in the dance studio.  We start at 7pm and have it for 2 hours through to Christmas.  The Dragons dance group want anyone interested in dance and performing to come down and try out this new project.  We provide the wheelchairs and training, all you need is enthusiasm time to practice.

Our new coach is a British dance champion and current Cheerleader Hannah Kalter  (pictured).  We plan to perform as often as possible in the new year because Hannah has successfully been given a Starbucks Youth Action grant to help get our group started.  If you are interested please contact the CCCT at This email address is being protected from spambots. Year 7 Challenge Cup finalists

This years Challenge cup final curtain raiser will again feature a team from Halifax.  Brookesbank Year 7s have qualified for this prestigious honour for the second time in since the Challenge cup returned to Wembley stadium.  They will face a strong Castleford Academy team who they beat earlier in the year.

Halifax RLFC and the CCCT have offered our support by coaching them in the weeks preceding their trip to London.  Scott Murrell, Adam Robinson, Chris Mitchell and Big Frank have all given up their time to help out with the finishing touches to an already successful season.

If you are planning to go to the final on Saturday the 23rd of August, you can still get tickets from the Halifax RLFC or from the RFL.  Please be sure to get down early and show your support to our boys from Brookesbank in their quest for Challenge cup glory!!

Chris Mitchell and Big Frank have been enjoying the past 2 weeks there doing Rugby League skills and other fun sessions.  They have been supported by the community support team and the local police on occasion which has made the sessions that much more fun.

If you are interested in attending please meet at the library in Mixenden from 130 pm and register.  Young people will need a signed permission slip from their parents or guardians which will need completing before you can attend.

Fax get a Taste for Touch

Last Wednesday the Calderdale Touch competition were proud to host the entire Halifax RLFC first team.  Whats more the Play Touch Rugby League events team were also down to show their support.  With almost 50 players turning out it was by far the biggest spectacle of Play Touch we have had in a long time.

The big winner on the night was Carys Scholefield (pictured below on the right) from the Upbeat Bandits who bagged herself a pair of tickets to the Super League Grand Final.  Event staff kindly gave every player a goodie bag on the night and Carys received the bag with the 'Golden Ticket' inside.  Carys has never played Rugby League or Play Touch before starting with us 18 weeks ago and she went on to score 4 tries on the night against the fax professionals.

The Upbeat Bandits (Below) will feature in next weeks Finals night on the moor.  It brings together the 16 week competition and the 4 weeks training we offered at 3GI soccer.  The Bandits have been with us for 20 weeks and are keener than ever to Play Touch Rugby League.

Millimetres from paralysis

One of our Play Touch Rugby League players  has been featured in the Yorkshire Post this week in the Life & Style section.  Simon Glenn who normally plays with the 'Upbeat Bandits' is in his second year with the CCCT and Calderdale Touch on Savile Park.

Simon suffered a career ending injury when he was involved in a tackle which saw him break his neck.  He was millimetres from paralysis but thankfully made a full recovery.  After an 8 year break his return to Rugby was with our Touch programme last year.

The CCCT are fully aware of the health benefits of playing touch rugby league and hope this article will reach more people who want to come back to rugby league.  As it is a low contact sport it is open to anyone who can catch a ball and run to score a try.

Our summer programme is drawing to an end this month but please keep an eye out for our winter league with details to follow soon.

Halifax Charity Gala 2014

The CCCT and Halifax RLFC will again be having a stall at the Halifax Charity Gala held on Saturday the 14th June 2014.  This will be the third successive year that we the CCCT have worked on the gala and will be joined by some of our community partners.

We hope to have our 'Stocks' up and have sponges thrown at some of our first team players.  There may also be a few new games but we will surprise you with what they may be.  The Gala is one of the few fundraising events the CCCT do regularly and can make a real difference to our community projects.
