Chris Mitchell (above) lead CCCT staff in completing a month of intensive full contact Rugby League skills at the Whitley Phoenix Centre pupil referral unit. We were asked to deliver the master class to the years 10 and 11 boys in the hope they can make up a team and play a few games locally. CCCT staff were pleased with the turn out as we had up to 15 lads taking part in one session which included defensive technique and evasion.
Unsurprisingly the talent shone through and the pleasing aspect for staff was the work ethic of the majority of the students. Both Big Frank (pictured below) and Chris Mitchell were both impressed with the efforts of the team and hope they continue with all the good work.
Siddal ARLFC Head coach Gareth Greenwood is a teacher at the Phoenix Centre school and has long believed in the positive lessons that can be passed on through sport. This isn't the first time the Phoenix Centre has had a Rugby League team nor the first time the CCCT have been into the school, however, this group of young men have proved to us all that they can stand out from the crowd.
