Calderdale Girls RFL Champion School festival.

Girls from 7 Halifax secondary schools at 4 different age groups attended the qualifying stage for the RFL’s Champion School’s competition which was held at Ryburn. The year 7 & 8 competition was won by Ryburn, who beat a good Brooksbank side by 10 tries to 7. The year 9 & 10 competition was won by Brooksbank who beat Ryburn 5 tries to 1.

Some excellent rugby league was played with most of the girls new to the sport. Information was then passed to all the girls for local girl’s teams, Illingworth and Brighouse with a view to girls joining either team.

Halifax RLFC then gave all participants a free ticket for the Halifax v Sheffield game and the 2 winning teams received coaching from Halifax RLFC community coaches, Mitch Calahane, Adam Tangata, Ryan Boyle and Jacob Fairbank.

Teams from both Ryburn and Brookbank will now represent Calderdale in the Yorkshire stage of the RFL’s champion schools competition which will be held at Shaw Cross.

The top 2 teams from the Yorkshire cup then go through to the National finals with the finals being played in London on the day before the Challenge Cup at Wembley.

Good luck to Ryburn and Brooksbank School’s from all of us here at the MBi Shay.
